You do not need to be an environmentalist, fisherman, or scholar to become a water quality monitor! All are welcome to learn how to collect data that can help protect and restore freshwater streams.
This training will provide classroom and hands on instruction for volunteer monitors on how to: select a monitoring site, use equipment properly, collect samples, test water quality, enter data, determine stream conditions and practice safety in the field.
This workshop focuses on physical, chemical and bacteria monitoring. You will learn about stream habitat, pollution sources, pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, E.coli and data collection. Once certified as a volunteer water quality monitor, you can adopt a stream to sample on a monthly basis.
Be prepared to get your feet wet in a shallow stream! You must attend the full workshop to get certified to become a water quality monitor. Questions? Call 803-898-4168 or visit www.scadoptastream.org.
You will be emailed more information after you RSVP for the workshop.
