How To Be a Green Step School

1. Form a staff "Green Team." 
2. Attend an annual Train & Update Session (Check for in-person sessions or watch our virtual session below.)

3. Decide on one or more sustainability projects where students learn, do, and teach others.

4. Fill out the 2024 form with your mentor.

To Earn an Award a Green Steps Project should be:
Significant
:
Project has a positive environmental impact.
Model Quality: Project is worthy to show other schools. 
Well Established: Project has been model quality for at least 12 months.
Sustainable: Each project is managed by at least 2 paid staff/faculty members. 

Documented: Videos or pictures with detailed captions showing students learning, doing, and teaching others, should be emailed to the project mentor and the program coordinator
janehiller@gmail.com by May 1.  A "learn" picture should document an identified group of students learning from an identified adult, a "do" picture should show those students doing the project, and a "teach others" picture should document those students teaching someone else what they learned. Please email only one "learn", one "do" and one "teach others" picture for each project.

1. Request mentor(s) for each project or suggest someone you know.                                                                                                              
2. Watch our short Train&Update video (see above.)

3Invite your approved mentor(s) to meet with your team in the fall. During that meeting work with your mentors to fill in the top portion and first four columns of the Green Steps Evaluation Form. Mentors should submit this by Jan 31.

4. Work to complete and document your projects.                                                                                  

5Invite your mentor(s) to meet with your team again no later than April 25 to critique your project(s).
6. 
Remind your mentor(s) to complete and submit your Green Steps Evaluation Form by May 1. Due date is 
FIRM!

Accept your award at a state workshop/conference or a regional fall kickoff. (Check calendar for dates and details.)           

NOTE: Forever Frames are given after earning two project awards. 

Green Steps Timeline

Fall

  • Meet with your mentor(s)


Fall through Spring 

  • Conduct project(s)
  • Document and submit videos or pictures with detailed captions to your mentor(s) and janehiller@gmail.com


Spring 

  • Prior to April 25, meet with mentor(s) for project(s) critique
  • Register for state workshop/conference (check calendar for dates and details)
  • By May 1, have your mentor(s) submit the Green Steps Evaluation Form
