Sample Project: Make and Use a Vinegar Classroom Cleaner

  • Start with a half gallon jug of white vinegar to make a non-toxic cleaner that protects both water and air quality.
  • Students can tear up the peels from 4 oranges (or use several sprigs of rosemary)
  • Screw on the lid and “brew” the contents for about three weeks.
  • Pour this concentrated cleaner (no peels) into a spray bottle half filled with water
  • Use to clean hard surfaces at school: desks, sinks, counters, floors, trash & recycling bins, etc.
  • Finally up-cycle the empty vinegar jugs into creative planters, bird feeders or garden water drippers for a Reuse Project.
  • Note: Vinegar Cleaner can count as Protect Water or Protect Air, but can only be counted in one category per year.
